It will be interesting to see if the 1980’s humor of self-absorbed New Yorkers has endured.
Didn't work for me in the slightest. In fact, I couldn't even finish the first episode. Not a chuckle or even a smirk from me.
I find that American humour can be very juvenile.

That is so funny! I’m sure you know that Americans similarly categorize British humor as puerile, and consisting primarily of bums, breasts, and bodily functions?
Perhaps it’s good to keep an open mind. Or do stereotypes imply a kernel of truth?
Afterthought -
Seinfeld, like Fawlty Towers, is an acquired taste, best appreciated with growing knowledge of the various characters. Not obvious after watching one episode, but clearer after seeing patterns of how they react to different situations.

It's odd, but it just didn't click for me, not one iota. On the other hand, a couple of years ago I started watching Friends and everyone was dumbfounded because I'd never seen it. That did click with me and I'm trying to figure out why, in comparison with Seinfeld.
Seinfeld: The show about nothing.
I was in two minds as to whether to watch Squid Game, but I'm glad we have, although it's very macabre and shows how the games bring out the best and worst in humans. It's also incredibly original and compulsive viewing because you need to know what happens next.
We'll be watching the last episode tonight.
Ugh. Can’t do it. During the past half decade, we’ve witnessed enough horrendous human behavior in real life.
At times this film is gut wrenching, especially the battle scenes and the awful decisions that the Dutch resistance fighters had to make. An incredibly well made film with dialogue in English, Dutch and German.
Based on a true story, although the reality must have been horrifying.
We've just finished watching Colonia Dignidad, a documentary about the home for poor children in Chile founded by former German war pilot, Paul Shafer in the 60s.
Words are difficult to find to describe how he treated both children and adults alike at that place, not to mention his protection by Pinochet which allowed him to get away with murder, literally.
He was finally tracked down to a ranch in Chivilcoy, BsAs province. A fucking monster.
Yikes! That sounds awful. Thanks for the warning.
Since I've almost finished On Wings Of Eagles I thought I'd re-educate myself about the 1979 Iran crisis. I had no idea the US had toppled a democratic Iran government in the 50s and placed the Shah as head of state, or his brutal oppression of the people.
And then the US embassy hostage crisis took place in November 1979, which was a disaster for America.
This BBC documentary is one of the best there is about the events of that year.
A shameful chapter in US history, and an explanation of the animosity of subsequent Iranian governments towards the US.
Really enjoying this satire with Di Caprio and Lawrence. It's actually believable in this social media plagued day and age
OMG, that is one of the worst 3 movies I’ve ever seen. It must have lasted 8 boring hours.
Yesterday afternoon we caught up “ Don’t Look Up”
Mrs GJ watched on her IPAD and I watched on the big TV.
An American satire about a comet about to hit earth, which of course the US government denied.
A lot of direct and indirect accusations of corruption from social media owners and also our friend at Tesla.
It moved quite fast in the first half but then slowed down.
But overall, it was a decent watch. – 6.5 / 7 out of 10
Rice , was the criticism of the US system too much for you?
Good question, GlasgowJohn . Actually, living in the US from 2016 through 2020 rid me of any naive attitudes about corruption, lying, and greed at the top levels of US government. And of course I loved Meryl Streep’s portrayal of a female Trump, so obsessed with her own re-election and her own survival that she couldn’t have cared less about the fate of the rest of the world.
No, to me the worst thing was the way the movie dragged. By the end of the first half hour, I was wondering if I could remember how to knit.
I've never been a big fan of Ricky Gervais, but this series has changed my mind about him. Very black humour, a lot of strong swearing and it swings from emotionally pricking you where it hurts, ie. our own mortality and how to deal with death and people that annoy you, to witty observations of ordinary people living very ordinary lives in a difficult world.
Our hero gets knocked down by a bus and everyone except him have never heard of The Beatles, so he begins to sing their songs.
It's a fun feel-good and boy meets girl, loses girl... film.
We’ll try After Life. Others who have recommended it have been Ricky Gervais fans from the beginning. Like you, we aren’t, especially. Perhaps this is the film that will change our minds.
It's worth a shot as it's very well made and at times very funny. However, there are some quite distasteful characters in it that frankly go a bit OTT.
