I actually dont mind them at all. You have them on all sites
I am being invited to invest in some mining opportunity based in Godonlyknowswhere.
Almost tempted to ask them what can I get for a 5 peso note?

I'm getting cars....I don't drive. Booze Ads would be more suitable for me.
If the ads provide enough income to make the forum self-sustaining, I’m willing to put up with them. Not quite so sanguine if they just lower the per person annual cost by US $25-30. I find them quite distracting, and using Reader View doesn’t filter them out.

Initially it won't lower the cost because it takes a long time to build up the revenue, but I do take your point. So far, I don't find them intrusive, however you can apply an adblock extension to your browser, depending on what device you're using of course. Not sure about Safari on Apple devices.
Although the forum is going through a quiet period, there is still a very healthy amount of views, so Google Ads is being reintroduced.
Any issues, please report them here in this thread. Thanks.
(Windows 8.1/Linux Mint 20.1 Firefox 84 > latest)
The big splash advert above the menu bar forces itself into the centre of my screen.
When clicking on "Unread Posts" it only takes a quick tweak of the thumbwheel to scroll down and get the menu bar back again but when using the "Latest Post" feature from the home page, it drags the screen away from the latest post up to the top of the page - even if the latest post was no. 19 or 20 down at the bottom.
It's been doing it today and, I think, yesterday.
This isn't a big deal (though it makes the "Latest Post" feature a bit pointless) but I'm guessing it shouldn't work that way.
I nearly always use my phone to access the forum. On the small screen, the ads are much more prominent than the posts themselves, often popping up right in the middle of a reply; less often, obliterating a post entirely. I hope the ads result in hundreds of pounds or at least dollars, as I would hate for the commercialized disruption to have all been for £2.38.
If you use Chrome on your iPhone, just install Adblock. In fact, just use Adblock on whatever device.
I’ll do that.
Use the Brave browser and their will be no ads.

I don't (knowingly) use an ad blocker on any device because on other websites the ads may pop up or displace the site content but they don't perform a <home> operation while doing so. Ads don't (normally) annoy me and I understand the commercial imperative - especially for a small operation.
It doesn't happen on any other sites I regularly visit - webmail. newspapers, forums etc - so I'm wondering if this is a <cough> feature <cough> of Woltlab?
daniel thanks for the tip. I will probably continue to use Firefox and Chromium as my go-to browsers but I'll try out Brave anyway
for the first time in months, I am actually seeing some relevant ads....
Ads halted from today.
Ads have been added temporarily due to not wishing to lose certain Ad Sense benefits through lack of use.
Approximate time frame?
And there’s a different thread for this, but when are you going to tell us what we owe, to keep the forum running, Splinter ?
Well, we haven't had a donation for quite some time, so any assistance towards the US$400 per annum would be most welcome.
Can you update your PayPal account and I will send some cash in later today.
USD?

I'll PM you.
Would it be reasonable, with about 10 active posters, to each pay in $40?
Okay: so I've just sent a donation (GPB) to the new link in the sidebar and deleted the old link that I had in my PayPal account.
