In order to assist with the costs of maintaining the forum, Google ads will begin running on the site in the next couple of weeks.
We hope they don't impinge on members' enjoyment of the forum and we'll try to keep them as unobtrusive as possible.

Makes sense....got 'em everywhere now. Even the BBC.com has them.
Ugh. If it means no one has to pay, I’m ok with ads. But will they fully cover the costs?

It takes a long time to get to that stage. All we can do is report back with how effective it is, or not, as the case may be.
Oh well, we had our ad-free fun. You're the boss, not me
The site has been approved for Google Ads and now we're configuring the most suitable ad placements, which may change from time time depending on how obtrusive or not they turn out to be.
Feedback is always welcome.
So, when here we should turn off our adblocker, no?
Thanks for reminding me Semigoodlooking lol
I just turned mine off and the ads are showing now.
I don't use a blocker. I've got so used to seeing fixed Ads on sites I didn't even notice them here earlier this morning. In fact when browsing the BBC site it took me a while to realise it had Ads on it too, weeks/months after they started having them.
The thing that pisses me off the most are those sites which suddenly block you from reading further by using pop-ups.
I’m seeing 5 ads in this thread with 10 posts, including one that requires my clicking on a tiny “x” in order to have my full screen back. Maybe members in different areas have fewer ads?
Splinter , should we be clicking now and again ? Does the site get more cash if we click on the ads?
It's a tricky one because there are so many variables. CTR (clickthrough rate) seems to be an important factor and It certainly wouldn't hurt to click on the odd one.
Here's a useful guide.

I see one at the top all of the time and a much smaller one further down only some of the time.

Es complicado.
Funny. My new popup is “AD BLOCKER FOR IOS - get rid of annoying ads in browsers and in apps.”
Now seeing more dds than I did earlier in the day. The missus won't be best pleased of she sees me looking at this one!!
''Meet Someone Special Abroad
Direct Connections with Singles Overseas. Share Your World on Video. Chat Live Now!''
I must have seen 40 ads today. Not that one, though. FP has a particularly irritating one, that won’t let me see a thread until I’ve cleared it.
Um, drawing?
Someone's taking the piss here. How do they know I'm a dirty old man and not a middle aged woman?
Now I'm getting a picture of a well endowed girl in a kilt!!
"Join Free" Join what!!! Is that click bait???
