It's all getting a little close to home now with friends of friends becoming infected, some hospitalised and others not making it through, albeit only two that we know of have died.
More young people are catching it because they've been socialising more than us (we don't at all, in fact) and so more strict measures have been taken by us. The youngster is pretty responsible, but this thing can jump even the strictest social measures it seems.
It's worrying.

Base line seems to be masking and distancing, but people seem to rebel against even those small restrictions.

The missus this morning found out her notary has been put into isolation as well as her accountants secretary...both are awaiting Covid test results. She also learned from those in the know there's a flu bug going about after the recent wet spell. First time a flu bug is good news!!

27,000 new cases today apparently, with Kicillof (the BsAs governor) wanting a 15 day total shutdown which is not being supported by the government, especially CABA.
Buses and trains are being told to run with all the windows open to cut down infections. Why this new idea now and not before?
The health minister says she has no idea when new vaccines will arrive in Argentina.
Argentine customs are hardening up on imports, to slow down the flight of central bank reserves.
De Vido (Once tragedy) is free walking the streets and Jose Lopez (the nuns fiasco) is about to be released.
Prepare for a total lockdown in Argentina if things get worse by the end of April.
Another day in paradise.

14,000 new cases 2 wks ago and 27,000 today? This sounds like the trajectory months ago in the US - - and still today in some states.
The difference between last April and now is that people have virus fatigue and a false sense of security if they and their families have thus far been safe.

Still some wankers walking about in busy public areas without a mask on. Not to mention groups of maskless teenagers larking about. Going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Not helped by a Government of halfwits.

I just read that virologists are recommending a hard lockdown because hospital ICU beds are approaching full capacity.
If a lockdown occurs, Will people comply?

Here where I am I suspect most will. There will always be some who won't of course.
Good news is, Graciela the MIL's carer got her Covid test result this morning and it proved to be negative. She's been allowed to go home to recover from what is now believed to be a bad flu.

My wife insists that people won't accept another full lockdown. I don't really agree because Argentina's version of not accepting is banging some pots. She says people are so concerned about their economic future that shutting businesses will allow the proverbial shit to hit the fan.
I have been alarmed by the recent spike in cases here, which was always going to happen as we approach colder months. Argentina is three months behind, so our major second (or is it third, I lose count) wave is now kicking in. I admit in recent months it's been easy to forget COVID even exists and live a relatively normal life of going out and doing what you want. However, I am concerend enough that I will start taking this more seriously again.
The latest noise is all social life will be locked down entirely, with businesses allowed to remain open, including schools. I think this defeats the purpose because surely only a total lockdown (like the UK) would work? I guess the government shares my wife's opinion that people just won't accept a total shutdown again.
If that's the case, I will be practicing my own little lockdown where I only go out for essentials. Problem is I have a kid going to school so he could bring it into the house on any day.

It's a difficult decision for a country like Argentina which is already on its knees economically. Thousands of businesses have closed, with many now finding it hard to make ends meet.
A compromise is the only way, otherwise we will see mass protests.

Yet out here in the sticks new businesses seem to be springing up every week. The ones that have closed are mostly those that have been around for years and haven't been able to adapt. Could be the pandemic will be a good thing for the country? It's needed a good kick up the arse for years.

Almost certainly not. Because while Argentina is getting the kick up the arse, it moves deeper into the same old problems that have stopped progress for decades.

That was my first thought...and the odds are overwhelming against it. However I have noticed some change in attitue amongst the business fraternity....not as cocky as it used to be.

It seems free movement between 2000 and 0600 is now going to be controlled, but this is not very specific yet. Also the government is asking us all to use masks in our own homes. That is something I will not be doing.

Splinter , the at-home masking must be for families with multiple people, especially kids, going out in different directions, having unmasked contact with potentially infected people.
Y’all do most of your work from home, and when you’re delivering or meeting with clients, you wear masks, right? With his new job, does the young one have his own digs now? Or if not, does his job put him in (masked?) contact with others?
If the two of you are alone, no masks. If you are also with someone whose patterns are riskier than yours, it’s time for a Come To Jesus mtg if you don’t want to need masks to protect yourselves at home.

what a bloody mess .....
curfew from 20.00 until 06.00
schools closed for two weeks, but we all know it will be 4 or 6 or 8.
the military out in the street to help the police control things - who is kidding who?
The big rumor is that Larrtea will declare education an essential activity in CABA
Apparently consulting with lawyers to see if he can do it legally.

I don't think the government really cares of what people think.
They pandemic is just helping them getting where they were planning to head anyway.
My husband and others have said they won't close down because they know the people will protest etc. However, I think the people here protest for so many reasons, that it has become ineffective.

Just another day in paradise.....
You got to laugh or you'd go mad!!

The youngster is stuck in his room working from home and never goes to head office or anywhere else for that matter, especially now that he can't see his friends.
