    Seriously,

    I find Naproxin (also brand name Aleve) effective in most instances 1 dose every 12hrs

    Others use Co-Codamol (Paracetamol + Codine) 1 dose every 6-8 hrs

    The nuclear option : Cox-Quin 90 / Etoricoxib 90 1 dose every 24hrs

    The last one is only available in Argentina under prescription - not sure about the others but we call Etoricoxib the "Magic Pills" in our household. Bonus is that Etoricoxib is kinder to the stomach than regular pain-killers but check the information sheet before using. It's an absolute no-no if you have certain pre-existing conditions

    Two practical things:

    Check your posture on the motorcycle.

    Try to take the pressure off your lower back by securing your upper body and letting your legs hang free for a bit. The pain may be behind your knees but it is coming from a trapped nerve in your spine - don't ask me how I know this!

    Thanks for the great tips. Do you live in BA and if so, is Co-Codamol available here without prescription? Perhaps with another name?

    It's known as Paracetamol codeina. It's supposed to be prescription only because of the codeine but a small, street-corner farmacia might supply it over the counter if they know you and you ask nicely. Be aware that it causes drowsiness.

    I'm a part-timer in CABA - currently stuck in the UK. Although I've browsed the board for a while I signed up because of the discussion about the builders next door - but by the time I was approved, the discussion had moved on.

    Sorry about the wait for approval. It's because of the spam, but we now have a better alert for new members :)

    By the way, the pain got so bad that I had to ask for an injection at the hospital tonight. It was simply unbearable, so I'm waiting for it to kick in.

    Good grief! So sorry your pain is of that magnitude, Splinter . You were right to go to the hospital to seek help. When my husband broke ribs, he was given a painkiller injection at the hospital that gave him relief for hours. After that, the strongest thing he could get was ibuprofen, which helped so little that he just toughed it out without medication. Not a recommended way to heal.

    Could you ask your doctor if s/he could prescribe one of the controlled substance medications recommended by bebopalula ?

    I completely forgot since I was in my own private hell, but anyway, the doc was such a miserable c*nt, I wouldn't have felt like asking probably.

    I wonder if your doctor was related to the one my husband saw. Until he insisted on an X-ray, she was treating him like a drug seeker. After reading the X-ray, she never apologized but was satisfyingly sheepish.

    Hope you will be feeling better soon. For YOU to go to a hospital, you were definitely in serious pain.

    The heart specialist I visited last month was a right miserable c*nt as well. He made me feel as if he was doing me a favour. I told the missus never to take me to see him again...she agreed after it was her turn!

    OTOH my chest doc is the opposite. After doing several tests on me he gave me the thumbs up. ''But he smokes'' the wife told him. ''He's old enough to know the risks of smoking so doesn't need me to tell him'' he said!! :th_giggle01: Him and I then had a pleasant discussion about whisky as well as dark rum. He like me, is very partial to them both. He's a great bloke. :thumbup:

    This was me yesterday prior to going to the hospital again, when the discomfort was off the scale.

    This time I was attended by two young and very efficient doctors who asked loads of questions, prodded me in all the right places and concluded that it's not sciatica.

    Apparently it's a contracted muscle in the gluteus maximus, aka my arse and not to be confused with Gladiator's brother.

    They gave me a much stronger injection with three components this time, a prescription for a much stronger painkiller, suggestions for exercises and heat treatment.

    Today I feel much better and can walk normally, with no Igor stoop at all and Jordan Belfort appears to have made it to his car.

    I took one of these pills on Sunday night and one on Monday night but have had to stop because of the hideous side effects - blurry vision, painful eyes and dizziness to name just a few.

    Now I'm just using a heat pack, a roll-on Arnica cream and to some extent the effect of the injection which I was told could be 28 days.

    I've never been happy about pumping my body full of weird drugs anyway.

    If you still have muscular pains , try Tafirol Plus

    Its paracetemol and a very mild muscle relaxant - certainly much milder than the one you are talking.

    It can be bought legally over the counter , unlike your current one which in theory needs a doctors note
