That’s insane. I talked with someone yesterday whose relatives, despite scientific warnings to the contrary, will not be vaccinated because they’ve both had mild cases of Covid, and are convinced they now have “better” immunity than that offered by the vaccine. Presumably protective forever, too.

I agree I'm totally pissed off with it all. The missus and I currently have heavy colds with much coughing and blowing snot out of our hooters yet noone gives a stuff!!

If you’re tired of it and pissed off, so is everyone who has tried to fight it with no help from those who won’t be vaccinated. As long as there is suck a block of people who refuse to help us reach herd immunity, we are sitting ducks for every #}%€£&¥%#+?!!! new variant that develops.
Meanwhile, in today’s Times:
“Flights from South Africa will be halted today as ministers and scientists become "deeply concerned" about a fast-spreading coronavirus variant. Travel from South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), will be banned from noon in an attempt to prevent the arrival in Britain of a variant that could evade vaccines.“

This new strain looks dangerously worrying.
Also, many experts are now suggesting a third Covid vaccine. What do others think?

We just had a 3rd shot. If you can possibly get a Pfizer booster shot, it will be very protective. The recommendation is for 6 months after your second shot, as immunity seems to start waning then.

Two people have already got the variant in the UK
Two cases of new variant of Covid detected in UKTwo people in the UK have been found to be infected with the new Covid variant, Omicron, the health secretary says.www.bbc.co.uk -

This feels like déjà vu.

Just when we could see light at the end of the tunnel, it turns out to be another train.

Some Brussels based doctor chap seems to think the chances of this variant being dangerous are very slim

I hope he is right. Does his ‘feeling’ result from analyzing facts, or does he possess a crystal ball?

His opinion is based on knowledge of the subject. He's the EU's main advisor. He didn't say but I got the impression he wasnt impressed by the hyperbolic reporting of the variant by the media.

Omicron - give it a name and you make it sound more threatening, just as they do with storms and the like.
Hands up those who are sick to death of this shit by now.

Mostly media driven as far as I'm concerned....they're loving it!!
''Omicron''...the fifteenth letter of the Greek alphabet seemingly. At least I've learned something new.

"OmyFeekingGod" Scottish word, being uttered fairly often in Escobar when watching depressing news.

The media do love to hype disasters and potential disasters. But do you remember how we all dismissed covid 22 months ago? Jan was the only one saying the sky was about to fall, and he is generally very dramatic.
We are all sick of it. But I repeat: It’s not yet sick of us. Dead of Covid to date:
Argentina 116,217
UK 144,724
USA 799,312
World 5,215,837
Because we are all tired of the regulations, the tendency is to stop observing the mitigation factors that have kept us safe. If the omicron variant turns out not to be affected by the vaccine, then we will be back to pre-vaccine days. Ugh.

Unless you personally know someone who has died from Covid then they're just figures Rice. Probably not that reliable either.

An elderly aunt in Glasgow passed very early on in the pandemic - Covid 19 was the cause. But she had about 66 other conditions - she would have gone sometime this year but went a few months earlier. Actually, probably a blessing in reality.
A friend's Mum in Ireland - she was in good health. She caught the disease from her health visitor.
The saddest case was a very good mate in Panama. He got turned away from about six hospitals as they were full and was sent home to quarantine and cure himself. He died on his own at home. Healthy guy - no bad habits.
That's the three I know personally.
there are others but now here I had a personal relationship.

No one very close to me has died of covid, but enough siblings, parents, friends or colleagues of close friends have died of covid to make me remind myself not to start being casual about it.
Last week a 46-year old man we have met but do not know well, died of covid, leaving his wife and 3 children. He had no underlying medical problems. While intending to be vaccinated, he hadn’t gotten around to it yet.

Be interesting to know how many deaths have been put down to Covid when they actually weren't. It's not been a waste of time though as it's been a good exercise for when something far far worse comes along....especially Chinese related.
