  • The British drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline and a German partner said that a new Covid-19 vaccine has produced good results in initial laboratory tests.

Experts said the number of deaths in England and Wales was at a "highly unusual" level, with a rising toll from infections and a spike in non-Covid fatalities linked to last month's hot weather.

Elsewhere, the whole of New Zealand was plunged into a snap lockdown yesterday after the discovery of the first locally transmitted coronavirus cases in six months.

(All hell would certainly break out here, if lockdown were imposed because of ONE CASE of the virus. Yet the singleminded determination to stamp it out is what has kept New Zealand to essentially no covid -)

  • As covid-19 surges in Mississippi, some people are ingesting an unproven livestock dewormer

.

“The plea from Mississippi’s top doctor to a state grappling with the nation’s second-lowest vaccination rate seemed simple: Do not take ivermectin — a drug intended for treating worms in livestock — to prevent or treat the coronavirus.
Despite no scientific evidence that ivermectin is effective at preventing or treating covid-19, State Health Officer Thomas Dobbs was left baffled this week after one person was hospitalized for ingesting the horse dewormer medication to treat the virus — a “kind of crazy” act he likened to getting chemotherapy at a feed store.
“Please don’t do that,” he said.

“Cases of people consuming ivermectin to treat the coronavirus in Mississippi are drawing alarm, with the state’s health department issuing an alert Friday warning people not to take the drug, saying the state’s poison control center has “received an increasing number of calls from individuals with potential ivermectin exposure taken to treat or prevent covid-19 infection.”

“Mississippi State Epidemiologist Paul Byers wrote in a letter to the MS Health Alert Network that “at least 70 percent of the recent calls” have been related to the ingestion of ivermectin “purchased at livestock supply centers.”
“Do NOT take drugs made for animals in any form,” the health department wrote on Facebook.
The spike in ivermectin use in Mississippi comes at a time when the state is suffering through what Dobbs described as “the worst part of the pandemic.” Mississippi reported more than 5,000 new covid cases Friday, bringing its seven-day average for new infections to 3,586, according to data compiled by The Washington Post. More than 1,600 people are hospitalized for the virus and about 450 beds in intensive care units are filled as of Saturday.

  • Straight dope on COVID, vaccine effects, Fauci, etc.

This is between 2 doctors, focused on Dr. Robert Malone, inventor of mRNA technology. He says we cannot vaccinate our way out of this epidemic. He says we may be making it much worse with vaccinations. He is and has been opposed to broad vaccinations against COVID. He says it is basic genetics that teaches this. It's really not hard to understand, but you need to try. You don't need to take anybody's word for it.

Malone is a very strong advocate of vaccines and has spent his career researching and developing vaccines.

  • The news about COVID can be quite confusing. This website collects a vast amount of data, and the differences, country to country, are enormous. Vietnam, for the longest time, was seemingly COVID free, and then it exploded.

Case counts are not usually so meaningful. It depends on how case is defined. As a surge starts, the focus turns to the threat and testing ramps up and up. The number of cases can only be as large as the number of tests administered. Figures like excess deaths or daily deaths are more significant. "Outcome of Cases" on Worldometer really tells the story. For Argentina, this is becoming purely endemic.

Indonesia was recently suffering a very scary rise in cases, hospitalizations and death due to COVID recently and it got much news coverage. They announced they would be using ivermectin just about exactly where the daily deaths peaked. The same occurred in Mexico, and twice in Bolivia. There was a Bolivian regime change that caused ivermectin use against COVID to cease and cases and deaths roared back up to where they were before they started ivermectin the first time. So, they started again, and the same stats dropped way down very quickly.

The impression we tend to get from random news sources gives no big perspective. It can make it seem like nothing but bad news forever, but the situation has improved a lot.

Systematic introduction of ivermectin over a large area shows these these drastic reduction effects immediately after systematic use pattern.

This website https://ivmstatus.com/ has much detail about ivermectin use for COVID worldwide. It is very widely adopted, but you sure wouldn't get thst impression from the vaccine pushers.

  • US Food and Drug Administration :

Why You Should Not Use Ivermectin to Treat or Prevent COVID-19

COVID-19. We’ve been living with it for what sometimes seems like forever. Given the number of deaths that have occurred from the disease, it’s perhaps not surprising that some consumers are looking at unconventional treatments, not approved or authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Though this is understandable, please beware. The FDA’s job is to carefully evaluate the scientific data on a drug to be sure that it is both safe and effective for a particular use, and then to decide whether or not to approve it. Using any treatment for COVID-19 that’s not approved or authorized by the FDA, unless part of a clinical trial, can cause serious harm.

There seems to be a growing interest in a drug called ivermectin to treat humans with COVID-19. Ivermectin is often used in the U.S. to treat or prevent parasites in animals. The FDA has received multiple reports of patients who have required medical support and been hospitalized after self-medicating with ivermectin intended for horses.

Here’s What You Need to Know about Ivermectin

    • FDA has not approved ivermectin for use in treating or preventing COVID-19 in humans. Ivermectin tablets are approved at very specific doses for some parasitic worms, and there are topical (on the skin) formulations for head lice and skin conditions like rosacea. Ivermectin is not an anti-viral (a drug for treating viruses).
    • Taking large doses of this drug is dangerous and can cause serious harm.
    • If you have a prescription for ivermectin for an FDA-approved use, get it from a legitimate source and take it exactly as prescribed.
    • Never use medications intended for animals on yourself. Ivermectin preparations for animals are very different from those approved for humans.

What is Ivermectin and How is it Used?

Ivermectin tablets are approved by the FDA to treat people with intestinal strongyloidiasis and onchocerciasis, two conditions caused by parasitic worms. In addition, some topical (on the skin) forms of ivermectin are approved to treat external parasites like head lice and for skin conditions such as rosacea.

Some forms of ivermectin are used in animals to prevent heartworm disease and certain internal and external parasites. It’s important to note that these products are different from the ones for people, and safe when used as prescribed for animals, only.

When Can Taking Ivermectin Be Unsafe?

The FDA has not reviewed data to support use of ivermectin in COVID-19 patients to treat or to prevent COVID-19; however, some initial research is underway. Taking a drug for an unapproved use can be very dangerous. This is true of ivermectin, too.

There’s a lot of misinformation around, and you may have heard that it’s okay to take large doses of ivermectin. That is wrong.

Even the levels of ivermectin for approved uses can interact with other medications, like blood-thinners. You can also overdose on ivermectin, which can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hypotension (low blood pressure), allergic reactions (itching and hives), dizziness, ataxia (problems with balance), seizures, coma and even death.

Ivermectin Products for Animals Are Different from Ivermectin Products for People

For one thing, animal drugs are often highly concentrated because they are used for large animals like horses and cows, which can weigh a lot more than we do—a ton or more. Such high doses can be highly toxic in humans.

Moreover, FDA reviews drugs not just for safety and effectiveness of the active ingredients, but also for the inactive ingredients. Many inactive ingredients found in animal products aren’t evaluated for use in people. Or they are included in much greater quantity than those used in people. In some cases, we don’t know how those inactive ingredients will affect how ivermectin is absorbed in the human body.

Meanwhile, effective ways to limit the spread of COVID-19 continue to be to wear your mask, stay at least 6 feet from others who don’t live with you, wash hands frequently, and avoid crowds.

This is like condemning Tide Pods because some people ingest them.

  • Perhaps more like condemning Tide Pods for ingestion by humans. The FDA seems fine with ivermectin for de-worming horses.

Agency issues message after misinformation about ivermectin, a medicine used to deworm livestock, spreads on social media. “You are not a horse!”

    The Guardian, 23 August 2021

Wondering about a govt’s needing to remind its citizens “You are not a horse” made me think this: Do ALL governments have to deal with this level of thinking? With people who won’t take a vaccine because they “don’t know what’s in it,” yet they are comfortable ingesting bleach, Lysol, livestock de-worming compounds?

That is true if "to leave" includes suicide, which I expect many are contemplating now.

As Bernays and Goebels knew well, say it from the bully pulpit enough times with enough "sincerity" for long enough and it WILL be believed by almost everyone. The subtle threats against the non-believers are a nice flourish.

Do you wish to eat? Get vaxxed! Simple persuasion , right?

Although this is a thread about the virus and not the disgraced, twice-impeached former president, I must agree that he learned the Big Lie lesson well. By the time he had almost half of the country believing his first 30,573 lies, it was a small step to convince them of the Big Lie, Act I (Moving from “If I don’t win next month, the election will have been rigged “ very seamlessly to “I won! The election was rigged!”).

Act II: “There was no insurrection on Jan 6! It was just a typical day with normal tourists. Who are you going to believe? me or your lying eyes?”
