That “rotating several times” was a bit too graphic.
To think that the worst part about entering China used to be the long lines and probing (er, sorry) questions at Passport Control!

Been several times in the past. So no, I won't be going back even without the 'free experience'.
From today’s Times:
Italy is heading full tilt into a third wave of coronavirus contagion as new cases soar and hospitals are forced to cancel regular operations and convert wards back to Covid-19 treatment. Nikolas Löbel, a politician from Angela Merkel's party is to give up his seat in parliament and leave politics after it emerged that his company had profited from deals to procure masks early in the pandemic. Russian agents have mounted a sophisticated disinformation campaign in the US to exploit fears about the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines and play up their side effects, officials warned. |
Sunday times today:
“British Airways will launch a digital global vaccine passport in time for the planned resumption of international travel on May 17.”
Is it known whether they'll accept proof of vaccination from other countries, for those who got their doses outside of the UK?

I haven't the foggiest but it doesn't really matter anyway. It would be sensible to carry official proof showing you got your vaccinations anyway....for those times the system goes tits up.
The number of breweries in the UK increased by more than 200 last year despite the impact of Covid on the hospitality sector, a report by UHY Hacker Young has found. Britain is now estimated to have more than 3,000 breweries.

That should give Budweiser something to chew over.
The King of Beers my ass!
Add all the piss heads who started home breweries in their boiler room and it's probably 10,000 new breweries.
Fascinating article about how the vaccine side effects vary so much.
Two thirds of Italy's 60 million people, including those in Rome and Milan, were ordered to stay at home from Monday until at least Easter as cases rebounded in a third wave prompted by the arrival of the UK variant.
Mumbai and other major cities in western India have restored curfews and social restrictionsamid a surge in coronavirus cases. The state of Maharashtra is the worst hit, accounting for two thirds of the 24,492 new infections identified yesterday.

In Brazil, it's actually young people who are now getting severely ill and dying of the virus. Brazil is in its worst days of the pandemic, with hospitals near collapse and daily death tolls reaching record numbers.

So right now, Argentina’s borders are open to only two countries, Chile and Brazil, both of whose numbers are increasing very alarmingly???
Flights are still arriving from USA , Mexico , Peru , Paraguay, Panam , Colombia , Spain , France and Germany.
You are only able to fly if you are Argentine, or resident, or a direct family member with a special visa.
Exactly.
Just announced
Flights to and from Brazil , Mexico and Chile cancelled until further notice
The measure is effective from Saturday.
Inevitable, considering how things are in Brazil. Their vaccination campaign is trying to pick up the pace but the effects of that won't be felt for a while.
Brazil in free fall |
Deaths in Brazil are at their peak and the country is reporting more new cases and deaths per day than any other country, enabled by political dysfunction, widespread complacency and conspiracy theories. On Wednesday, the country surpassed 300,000 Covid-19 deaths, with roughly 125 Brazilians succumbing every hour. |
Intensive care units face dire shortages and essential medicines are only available at an exponential markup. “We have never seen a failure of the health system of this magnitude,” said Ana de Lemos, the executive director of Doctors Without Borders in Brazil. |
President Jair Bolsonaro has promoted ineffective drugs, played down the threat of the virus and fueled fears about vaccines. Many of his hard-core supporters believe his instincts are sound. “There was one solution: to listen to the president,” said Geraldo Testa Monteiro, who lives in Porto Alegre. |
Mr. Bolsonaro and other politicians have also resisted lockdowns, which epidemiologists say could have been avoided if the government had promoted masks and social distancing, and more aggressively pursued vaccines. |

[To anyone in or from the USA, this sounds terrifyingly familiar. There, but for the grace of God, was the US before January 20 and a change of administration.]
Some good news in this morning’s Times.
“Only one in every 1,000 coronavirus infections occurs outside, according to analysis of contact tracing data in the Republic of Ireland.”
In the US, the state of Michigan seems to be leading the macabre parade of rapidly rising cases, mostly among younger adults. We have been planning on going there in June for a few months, but are having second thoughts.
Like Argentina, Michigan shut down last April for what seemed an eternity, earning ferocious anger, even death threats, for the governor. There followed a period in which the state was the only one with rapidly falling numbers of new cases, hospitalizations, and deaths.
Now the numbers are more than alarming. The governor, perhaps burned by last year’s response to her tough leadership, is now merely “requesting personal responsibility “ instead of requiring shutdowns of any activities.
Second day of the easing of lockdown, and the roads were a lot busier. Expecting it to get worse in May
