The ultimate Fawlty Towers documentary from 2009.

    Unmissable if you're a fan.

And apparently, this where Basil thrashed his Morris car.

I can't stop laughing and I'd be exactly the same if I ran a hotel.

My missus can be like that. If I interrupt her repeatedly when she's watching a programme on the telly she eventually gets fed up and shouts what now!! She thinks I do it on purpose. ^^

Some of those episodes were scripted magnificently and others less so.

John Cleese usually stands in the way of excellence unfortunately.

Like I say, I never met the guy. He might be lovely.

He is always very funny in every show and movie I have seen.

If you're a fan of Torquay and the English riviera.

    And some outtakes...

Must admit outside of Fawlty Towers I wasn't a fan of his. Might have been my age but I just 'didn't get' Monty Python.

Watching The Holy Grail on the big screen might have been my first real introduction when I was old enough. The theater rereleases that continue to this day. It was outrageous. Before that, I was too young to understand the PBS reruns of the British Flying Circus from MP. And then also in the 80s, the Wanda comedy was funny and mainstream for USA tastes.

    This.

I’ve never been able to put my finger on it or articulate how I see it exactly but I think it was all supposed to appeal to high-minded public schoolboys and not the general public. In that sense I’ve a feeling I was never supposed to “get it”. If I’m right then I’m glad I don’t.
Michael Palin redeemed himself through the classic “Around the world in 80 days” recreation. Otherwise I’d see him much like I see John Cleese.

What in earth is funny about the Life of Brian or was it Bryan?

Thanks for the reminder, Imwriting . I didn’t like The Life of Brian either, and think I’d washed it from my memory. But I always thoroughly enjoyed MP’s Flying Circus skits as well as MP and the Holy Grail, which essentially was a series of skits strung together in a way that worked.

High minded public schoolboys? What a load of tosh.

Most of the people who enjoyed it never went to public school and the demographic was far and wide.

As was the geographic spread of the audience. Much followed in the USA.
