We have an old Honda Fit/Jazz 2008 which we've now decided to sell since the lad has agreed that we can share his two year old Ford Ka.

Anyway, the Honda SRS airbag light started to come on permanently some weeks ago and by sheer coincidence we received a recall letter from Honda a couple of weeks ago.

Long story short, they replaced the airbag and window actuators under warranty and we were hoping that this would solve the SRS light. But no, the SRS module is faulty and the cost to replace is around AR$50,000, which is about a quarter of the car's value.

I then found a trick for erasing the SRS memory using a paperclip but that didn't work, then I removed the module, but the light stays on.

I've had a number of quotations for diagnosing the module, possibly resetting it as well, but with no guarantee that the light will go off permanently. Either way, the airbag needs to work and or the warning light needs to disappear before we sell the car.

Quotations are upwards of AR$5000, but may not solve the problem.

    Any ideas, anyone?

    PS

We don't pay car tax on the Honda any more as it's over ten years old, but the running and maintenance is costly.

If you take out the fuse that provides that warning light with energy?

It's like selling anything - you want to have as few question marks as possible.

I'm already replacing the front grille, rear light cluster, trying to fix the central locking and getting that damned light to go out.

In fact, we nearly sold it a few months ago, but all these points put the buyer off.

I suspect you'll have tried this seen as you mentioned the paper clip.

We had a car where the maintenance light stayed on, after trying to hide the light with tape, I finally reached up behind the panel cluster and just took the bulb out. If your car is equipped, you might try using a code reader to see if a code has been set, and use the code reader to reset the code. I keep a code reader for my old diesel truck, just for that purpose.

I’d have thought anyone buying a 12-year-old car would be looking for basic transportation, not a beauty contest winner.

Used to see a hell of a lot more old bangers on the roads than I see here now.

Still a lot of motor cycles going about though. Despite having no lights, half the bodywork missing, wires sticking out and exhausts banging away they can't half shift.

Usually ridden by youngsters on a suicide mission.

The idea is to get as much money for the car as we can and details are important, particularly if I can fix them at minimum cost or less.

My other career was salesman and I was trained to get the buyer to want to buy and not to give excuses for perceived problems.

    Fiat Mobi.

The cheapest new car in Argentina now costs over 2 million pesos, thanks to inflation and devaluation.

Compared to the price of a KitKat it's a good buy. ^^

Looks good, but I guess I would have to import it to the UK, which I don't think they'll allow

Not so sure, SpaceNut - - it looks as if it would fit into a shipping container. Maybe even a trunk! 🤪

In May 2019 we advertised the Honda Fit (Jazz) 2007 model for AR$185,000 and the market price is now AR$950,000. That's pretty crazy when you think about it.
