I can’t understand why these private investors holding 56% of Argentina’s debt ever got involved in the first place. Can anyone explain?
Is Argentina inevitably headed toward its 9th default?

Rice .....
They get a high interest rate, which means high risk......
But still it's their money.....doesn't belong to Argentina!!!!
Last default, vulture funds bought the bonds already after they had lost, speculating that they could get more back than they pay.........and that's what Argentina argue is immoral......because then u r a capitalist!
A little like u buy a car cheap, and afterwards the car maker say u don't deserve it and dont have the right to the car.......even that u bought fully legal and according to the law!

Crass stupidity and ignorance?

And greed, I am guessing. But if you were promised even a 90% return on your investment in Argentina, would you take the chance? I can’t imagine.

Maybe even vultures wouldn’t want to have to fight so long or so hard, to get their money back.

The moral argument is used by Argentinians in many circumstances.
If you press to deliver a service you paid for, you are being dictatorial. If you demand to meet delivery times, you are being capitalist. If you want to cross the Ts and dot the Is, you are overcontrolling... and so on. Argentina, grow up!

A US$300bn debt is unsustainable, according to the IMF.

More chance of Shergar winning this years Epsom Derby than Argentina ever being able to sort this bloody mess out.
Business as usual.....

I'm not much politically minded but for me she brought Britain out of the past and into the future.
One reason why Argentina is years behind most of Europe and I suspect will continue to be so as long as we're around.

Maggie has a point. I wonder how you could posterize the concept of the problem with top-heavy capitalism - that eventually the billionaires will run out of little people on whose backs they grow richer?

The US dollar has hit a record high of AR$140 today, which is a difference of 85% against the official rate of exchange which stands at AR$75.92.
Earning in dollars has never been better in Argentina.

The dollar is KING here therein lies the problem with Argentina. Someone I know was selling a plot of land this week to a builder who had agreed to pay the asking price in dollars last week. The deal fell through because he couldn't get his hands on enough dollars to complete the deal. He asked if he could pay in pesos instead.....aye right!!

The nearest exchange place just gave us $132 despite the rate on ambito being $135-140. I wonder if they expect it to go down by Monday...

Depends which direction the wind is blowing on Monday.

You can buy a lot of good wine at that exchange rate, if you earn in dollars -

The 140 is the buy rate
The sell rate is anything between 130 and 134
