From my viewpoint, it's because of a lack of perspective.
Argentines do business like Argentines.
With a major exception ... That guy who started Mercado Libre / Mercado Pago was a first class winner in my opinion. Even a broken watch / clock tells the time correctly twice per day!
Put another way, The government in place is very restrictive.
The unionism and employer obligations to employees is DRACONIAN in nature.
Business and free enterprise cannot flourish with handcuffs like these.
Remove the chains and the country will get legs very fast.
But the problem in doing that is that one generation of Argentines will have to take a bullet for the team in order to make the transition for all the generations to come.
Think about it - It is very true.
Simple answer is this country missed the boat by at least 40 years and they only have themselves to blame.
Love the country and its people but I still find it ruddy annoying living here!!!

At the dietetica El Portugués, with branches all over Capital, they sell it in 1 kg bags. They are considerably cheaper than regular nuts, but their taste is nothing like them.

Pecans are absolutely delicious. Sweet, compared to English walnuts. Pecan (pronounced pe-KONN, not pe-KANN or, even worse, PEE-kann) pie is divine, but that pecan pie cobbler recipe you sent looks even better.
Maybe serafina could be persuaded to add one of those to her award-winning King Cake for the Mardi Gras party....

Have to agree. Despite not being a great lover of nuts the pecan is rather nice. Our usually go to waste to be honest.

I had a pecan pie many years ago in NY. I have tried use pecan nuts as a cheaper substitute of regular nuts in pesto and sweet cakes, but I am not satisfied with the results. I think the King Cake will remain my signature cake for forum members. 
By “regular nuts,” Do you mean the same thing that we call English Walnuts, serafina ?

No, no - don't worry. We have noticed that many people call them "ordinary nuts" or "regular nuts," meaning, I guess, that they are locally grown and more plentiful than pecans.
Both types are grown in the US, but pecans are not in such great supply, so they always cost more.
You should stock up in Buenos Aires on your next visit, then! Here they are cheaper.

I had never seen them in Italy, only in the Americas. I guess nowadays they are easy to find even there, as more international recipes call for them.
I remember an exotic nut in Italy, called Brasilian nut. I wonder if that's their name in English, too.
Yes, serafina , in the US those are called Brazil Nuts, among ruder names that are dying out with the current century.
I'm shocked and amazed that Pecans, especially the ones without the shells, are so cheap. About half what we pay in Louisiana, where they are grown! I must fill up a suitcase with them to take to the family cooks and bakers for their Christmas baking this Christmas.

I've recently adopted a craving for these Bocadito Marroc Jan, an ideal match to go with a cup of coffee. Trouble is, they're not very big...two bites and it's gone!! At 25 pesos each they're not great value.....nothing is here right enough when it comes to sweeties.
