and then I bought an Ecosport here in 2008. That was the only one I had problems with when the engine mountings broke, which required engine removal.
However, the mechanic screwed up with the timing chain which ruined the head and it spent another two weeks in the pit.
For reliability though, Ford are pretty damned good.
We bought a second hand Ecosport from Ford when we moved here and it never let us down....it was a great car especially for the countryside roads. The only thing the wife didn't like about it was where the spare wheel was mounted on the rear door. You needed to be muscle man to open it!!
Don't like the latest Ecosport model compared to the older one.
i always wondered about the spare wheel on the ECOSPORT . How many are robbed per year in Argentina?
Ours was stolen...
The Explorer looks almost identical to our current one. I’d read that Ford had planned a completely new exterior design for 2020. I’m disappointed, because the exterior is the only thing I don’t like about it — from the driver’s seat you have to guess where the front of the car ends. So I often pull in to a parking place, get out, and see that I stopped a meter too soon!
Ours was stolen...
I wondered about that and assumed the special 'key' that loosened it was different for each car. Obviously not.
We had to buy a new one and only after that was when we fitted locking nuts to ALL the ffing wheels.
if it ain't screwed down...they come in the night...
Wait - every morning you have to unlock your wheels?
You replace a nut on each wheel with one of these to stop theft.
So when YOU want to drive your car, you have to remove them?
Nooooooo!
They are the nuts that keep the wheel on the car. You don't have to do anything except keep the special key nut (female) to remove the lock nut in case of a puncture.
haha rice started with the wine early today I think!!!! Hahaha
I really love Ford....... always liked them.....and the story behind....
Anyway, several people told me the quality here is much worse than the real Ford from up north.....
No idea if it's correct.
Problem in ARGENTINA is this: all the pseudo housewife SUV'S, including my own, are great for example Germany n Europe.......but the roads here in Argentina really demands a real pick-up truck or a real SUV. If you only go around the corner, whatever car is ok.....but already a few km outside of the capital the potholes get bigger n bigger.......
I drive very cautious and "German", but still I get surprised about the huge holes and bumps I suddenly hit......I really wonder what happens to a "normal" small car if do that. Just the garages are already a test to your car......the steep entry and exit.
My next car will pretty sure be a 4x4 of some kind, probably a ranger or amarok.
I'm so ashamed of my housewife SUV.....
You must be right, @JAN - - There must have been wine in my teacup this morning, because I still don’t get it! Splinter , you put those things on to keep people from stealing your CAR or just the WHEELS???
If it’s the car you’re worried about, how do those little gizmos keep someone from stealing it? They are really little round extraterrestrials who can read the minds of potential car thieves, right?
Helloooooooooooooooooooooooooooo?
To stop them stealing the wheels.
Rice, whiskey, sorry my mistake haha!
The bolts Splinter talk about is the bolts that hold the wheel. U have one on each that is a special "coded" one.....u need a special key to take it of. That way u can't take the wheel of quick!
Btw they are to easy to take of anyway.....
U just hammer on a screwdriver on it till it loosen, then u take it of with the fingers!. Takes about same time as normal ones!!!!

Show me.
Splinter .....
Have u never had bolts that's was fucked up, no wrench that fitted, totally round and impossible to get a grip on?
When u have one like that, you just hammer a sharp screwdriver into the metal, counter clockwise of course.....it then leaves a small "scar".....then just put screwdriver in an angel, again, counter clockwise, hammer on screwdriver until the bolt get a little lose.....then do rest with fingers

I have experienced a couple of non auto products from well known trusted makers. I suspect due to their poor performance were lines which were withdrawn from the market elsewhere in the world due to complaints....''send them to Argentina'' was the likely answer to the problem.
UK Man ....
I have bought a few pairs of shoes through the same mercadolibre seller......all brand new, but all second choice.......all are sold as "used", but brand new! Only once a fake pair. But it would confirm your suspicion....
On Mercdo Libre I would expect some products to be dodgy.
I'm talking about well known branded products which were sold by so called relaible retailers at the usual 50% more than the price you'd pay for them in the UK. Buying anything here is a rip off.
