If you noticed an increase of 5 pesos bills being handed to you, there is a reason: they will stop being valid currency at 23:59 on Jan 31, 2020.
Starting from February 1st, only banks will be able to take them in and to exchange them.

Curiously, on this banknote collector website, there is the 100 pesos bank note with the Taruca (hardly seen around, it was issued in 2018) that is valued 8 eur (about 600-700 pesos using the blue rate).
I got one the other week for the first time!
Far more attractive than chicken neck!
Funny the wife mentioned this to me yesterday and asked me if I had any. Only the bundle you gave me I said.
To think what I could have got for 5 pesos 12 years ago....no I'd rather not.
Churches will see their collection plates brimming with 5’s. Waiters will be getting 5’s as tips. Beggars can expect 5’s from people who formerly tossed them coins.

I don't attend church or frequent restaurants and I haven't seen any beggars where I live. Still...I'm sure I'll find a way of getting rid of mine even if it is giving them back to the bank....maybe I should crumple them up one by one first just to make a point?
The bank will exchange them for a higher denomination or for 5 pesos coin. But you won't be able to use them as a currency!

What the 5 peso coin?
If the 5’s you have are in the same condition as the ones we get, UK Man, you can’t crumple them because they are too worn out and limp!
I'll spray some starch on them.
Please don’t forget to photograph them for us.
Actually, it is the spray-starched and crumpled bills I want to see.
