Mercadona grew from ebing a small regional supermarket to a national chain and became market leader in Spain because it abandoned totally falso discounts .
No leaflets and no ads
their slogan is SIEMPRE PRECIOS BAJOS

Carrefour and jumbo are equally guilty
At least, Carrefour has been trying to make a (feeble) attempt to reduce checkout times. In several Carrefour Supermarkets (the larger stores) they advertise a target of 5-minute checkout with a whatsapp number where you can text if you have been waiting for longer than 5'. They promise is that the store manager will be notified about it and will open new tills.
I wonder why the floor personnel cannot see a long queue for themselves, but that's just me!

Your wife sounds amazing, UK Man .
She doesn't suffer fools gladly...why she married me I don't know.

Visited Vea today.....no KitKats there for some reason but got some good bargains nonetheless. Vea do seem to be discounting heavily of late so they must be feeling the pinch...their own bloody fault for ripping customers off La Anonima style for years.
The missus got some Finca Natalina Malbec as it was on a 4 for 2 offer. She's partial to it so she got 8 bottles which at the rate she drinks will last her months. We're no wine experts but it's pretty smooth....and it'll be handy to have with the festive season coming up. None of our friends are wine experts either.
I got a dozen small cans of Puls beer which were on a 3 for 2 offer. Despite its poor online ratings I think it's not bad and tastes superior to the usual Quilmes/Isenbeck/Schneider stuff. I also got a bottle of VAT 69 Scotch for 280 pesos which is around £4 in real money. I like a nip now and again and it's also ideal for making my hot roasted caramalised banana with ice cream....which I may make for dessert at Xmas. Not that I can be arsed with Xmas.

We’re no wine experts either, UK Man , but I can tell you that 8 bottles of Malbec wouldn’t last us until next Sunday.
I'm not allowed to drink it otherwise it wouldn't last long either. She makes me drink my own stash.

''Oferta'' my arse!!
Irma our Kiosco lady has had them cheaper than that for months. Did I mention LA Anonima's latest price is 96 pesos?

Never mind the latest oil price or dollar exchange rate. The price of a KitKat here is a more reliable way to gauge the inflation rate here.

Four 4 bar KitKats in Asda still costs £1 = 150 pesos while just 1 in La Anonima is 180 pesos. If the arsehole of a President is on the side of the not so well off why doesn't he take steps and make them affordable to all?

True but it's still a rip off!! Having said that I got a litre bottle of Argie rum for 350 pesos tonight so can't complain.
I think the KitKats you get here are made in Brasil but can't be sure as I have none.

Just noticed this post was from 2019. When in the mayorista yesterday I saw VAT 69 on sale for 540 pesos which is the equivalent of £3.60. I got the rum instead as it was cheaper and a litre sized bottle. Will get the VAT 69 next time we're in.
