Hamburg’s hochbunker might be just the combo of luxe and dark history you are looking for. Complete with a roof garden to beat all others.

Craving luxury with a side dish of Nazi history?

I lived 5 years in Hamburg and was passing by daily. There are many bunkers still.
But what I will never forget, was my childhood in Denmark in the '70......on the west coast of Jutland u still had the 8000 bunkers Hitler build to protect the continent, 8000 thousand!!!!!
.....at that time, only 25-30 years after end of the war, u still had many of the bunkers in the same condition as when they were left by the Germans!!!! It was an absolute heaven for a child to go Treasury and history hunting in them........inside many of them, still fully equipped , without guns obviously, but with all the rest left.....beds, kitchen and and and......we would go through any small detail to see if we could find small leftovers! I wish I could go back to that time again......I would dedicate one year just to search for stuff. I guess nowadays, 70 years later, little is left.
It's like going through a time machine visiting places like this.......
Another totally time machine to visit if you ever have the time: PRORA on the German east coast, (the small part it has haha).
When u visit places like this u understand the history better.......
