The woman is what, 80 years old, and they cuff her hands behind her back? Like she’s going to karate chop them and run off?
I don’t know the story on this: was anyone else arrested and frog-marched off the steps of the Capitol? Jane Fonda has been a lightning rod and easy target for half a century.
To answer your question, “Are protests in the the land of the free scrutinised that much?“ Sadly, for the first time in its history, the US is in a period of madness that makes it seem more like Putin’s Russia than a stable, sane Western country. For the future of the world, let’s hope the fever breaks.
One way of looking at it is that if she hadn't been arrested, many of us would never have known about the protests in the first place.
So perhaps in that, she has achieved her objective. Cynical, I know.
Some would say cynical. Others, pragmatic.
Jane has been arrested again. Her description of the event:
Fonda blogged about the experience on her website. She explained that they were put in white plastic "handcuffs" and taken to a nearby police station "for a few hours." The Oscar winner added they were all divided into two cells with the doors left open, and were released after each paying a $50 fine. "The plastic handcuffs hurt more than the metal ones," she blogged, adding, "and I discovered that it's not easy for an 82-year-old to get in and out of a police paddy wagon without the use of her hands." (Fonda will turn 82 in Dec.)
