Early days but the grape vines have a lot of fruit this year.
In the garden

Two months after the other seedlings came through, these have just started. Could it be because I planted something else in the tin having almost given up on them?
It seems they need company to grow! I read somewhere that they can turn into a weed, as they know no boundary.

You're right about that. They are spreading like crazy.

My aloe has "cancer" and according to the Internet, there is no cure but throw it away before it spreads to other aloe plants. It is due to a parasite invisible to the eye (Aceria spp) that cause an abnormal growth of granular yellow masses on the surface of the leaf.
I had already thrown away a plant in the pot next to this earlier this year. If you remember, I had posted about aloe flowers, that never fully developed. Instead, the plant leaves got infested with this yellow mass and randomly looking on the internet, I found out it was not good... it was cancer!
This is the biggest aloe we have on the terrace, but there are baby sprouts next to it.
Detail of the tumor mass (yellow)
The affected aloe plant
The pest that causes this (or something like it)

Ugly little beastie! I hope the baby sprouts are going to be OK. Sometimes the soil must also discarded - - maybe check with a plant vendor?

I think that's an actual possibility! Maybe UK Man can take a break from his pipe smoking time to chime in

Lots of palm dates in the town house tree this year. They're small but I'm looking forward to seeing if they'll ripen.

Are they edible? I had read somewhere that if you cut off the fruit branch the whole plant will die. Is this true?

Yes most dates are. As Rice says getting to the buggers in order to pick them is the problem, We also have them in the quinta but as the trees are 50 feet tall there's no way to pick them so the birds eat 'em....which is fair enough.
The town garden palm isn't tall so the fruit is within reach.

That's pretty impressive! It looks like they are stealing all of the available place, at this point!
I can see an orange flower at the top!
