Tomorrow I’ll go to the Western Union place near here, but it looks more like a kiosco selling kit kats than a cambio equipped with dollars -

I understood in the thread that u would get 79 pesos for a dollar.....to buy a dollar should be much higher then......
serafina let us know......
If I was in Palermo, I would just walk in and ask if they buy dollars and at what rate......
Call them: https://agencia-vidt.negocio.s…e=gmb&utm_medium=referral
They show the western union sign.
There is a WU teller around the corner, but the cambio is done by another entity called Cambio Estelar.
They are showing different rates according to their location. This is a legit currency house so no blue.

ahhhhhh....... I Will check tomorrow too, if I go by a larger Western Union......
Just out of curiosity.......
I know there is one huge on Cordoba close to puyrredon

Our place in Belgrano did slightly better than the official rate, but nowhere near the blue rate. Just 66.
A block away, another legit cambio house was buying for 59 and selling for 64.The place on Plaza Italia with its 72.50 is still the best I have ever seen.
@JAN, how did it go at WU?

I remember Cabrera, cabaña los Lila's etc., back in 2005....was like 20 USD for full meal including desserts, appetizers, wine....
I remember those days too. But it is different now, with all these years of inflation and all the international publicity for those restaurants. Now they cater to tourists and don’t really care if they price local customers out of the market. The prices will rise along with the dollar.

serafina .....
Didn't manage to check it out.....
And since I have no usd in cash but rely on my payoneer card, I'm not really in a hurry......but im interested to know whether it's true or not!!!
Time will tell.......
66????? Neeeeeee......I would hang onto my usd if I had some....
I had bills to pay which were due last week but we decided to hang onto our USD and pay interest because we foresaw the exchange rate would justify it.
Albright the exchange rate didn’t jump as much as after the PASO, I think were still gaining, just for a risible amount.I am getting hair treatment to spend them as soon as possible. Argie life.

They clarified that the 79 rate was only for WU to WU local pickup transfers, and only if initiated in the US. Namely, you needed a person handing cash in a WU office in the States and you getting cash in a WU office in Buenos Aires to get that rate, so no bank involved and entirely within WU.
Still, if one was lucky enough, it was a great rate, especially after looking at ambito 2’ ago.

the only reason the dollar is quite is because they have stopped or limited to dollars u can buy!!!!!
Seriously doubt it's gonna stay in this level.......I would bet my pants the blue n the CCL will rally soon....
BTW, the WU money thing.......seems u need to send usd from USA, then pick it up here......in person, both. (That's what I read in other thread).
But could b good deal: tell a friend, drop of 1000 usd in the states, then pic up 79.000 pesitos here, (and use them quick hahahaha..... overnight).
No idea how all this works......but it's not gonna stay like this that's for sure!!!!

The rate went down the tubes today . Just as I went into my cueva in Belgrano/....
The Spread quoted right now on Ambito.com 64.00 / 67.00
God alone knows the reason why it dropped so much....

This morning I'd committed myself to a purchase based on what I thought I could get and by the time I'd arrived at the office to sell the USD it had already gone down by about 10 pesos.
Disappointed, but that's the risk.

My brother in law and niece are coming from Scotland to BA in a few weeks time. He's just told me they're staying in San Telmo which isn't an area of the capital I'm familiar with. Anyone know if there is a safe place there to change $$$? I told him to bring dollars not £££ as he said he would.

@ukman, great advice. Pounds are bummer. USD the best, EUR the second best.
I am not a fan of San Telmo, especially for first time tourists. Yes, nice and with an old feeling to it during day, but unsafe after sunset. I don't know of any exchange place in the area, but I have noticed that under the Macri administration a lot of Exchange House (legit ones) have appeared everywhere, so I suppose there are some also in San Telmo. I can remember one on the street going to Plaza Dorrego, I think it was one block away from the Flea market.
For the black market, I guess Florida street is still the go-to place if you don't have a trusted 'guy'.

Thanks serafina....I don't fancy San Telmo either. The company my niece (who is a lawyer) works for in Edinburgh also has an office in BA and it was her contact there who suggested San Telmo. She should have asked me.

It all depends which part of San Telmo.....
We spent last weekend down there and it was fine where we were.

They're booked into the Kerr Historico hotel. Never heard of it until today.
