Well, shut my mouth! Now I'm thinking of switching nationalities. Canada is always handy and tempting. Never thought of Norway until now, but....

I think the preferred way is to scope out a sleepy-looking Canadian exiting Passport Control, then grab the passport out of his hand and update it with your own photo and bio info.
Other than that, I don't know of any channel.

Must be a US thing, in EU and here I have always seen it in red.

No. Not even residency really.
And even once you have residency, have to live a good several years in the country (3? 5?) to apply for citizenship.
