I often wondered about cats' sense of smell and always knew it was far better than humans'. I've also noticed how Floyd and Panda greet each other by briefly touching noses, even if they have only been apart for five minutes, as if to say, "Just checking it's really you."
The same can be said when I pick up Panda - she always touches my nose with hers, just to make sure it's really me, presumably.
Fascinating creatures, cats, but they are always on their guard and I'm so glad they don't bark!

We are currently using CanCat. I remember buying a nicer brand many years ago - maybe TidyCat? - which was not as dusty as this one. It was expensive compared to local brands as I believe it is imported.
This CanCat bag costs around 10,000 pesos and lasts 3-4 weeks
This is the one I bought once in the past.
Update: I was browsing on ML for Tidy Cats and I found a different litter that I will try. There was a comment from 2023 that said that it is the best one since Tidy Cat is no longer available in Argentina.
Update on cat litter.
I do not recommend CanCat as it makes a lot of dust and smells horrible after two weeks. The package advertises it last up to 45 days, but in reality the smell was so unbearable, that it hardly lasted a month. It is also more expensive than other alternatives that I have found recently.
Right now, we are using CatCo and Rubicat Classic clumping litters. Both make zero dust and clump well. The price is similar on a single litter, but the savings are bigger with Rubicat larger presentations.
The pet store where I bought Rubicat only had the Classic one, but I'd like to try the Detox one, as well. We have litters in a bathroom with no windows, so we will take all the help we can get. I clean the litters twice a day.
We have had for about 2 weeks a foster kitten who was found standing still on a street, covered in ants and flea. A man walking his dog on 12/31 brought him home, where he gave him a bath with glycerine soap and fed him his adult cats' food. That's what he had in the house during NYE and it was a miracle worker as the kitten managed to stay alive and gain some strength back. He contacted a friend who knew a volunteer who is part of my husband's whatsapp group, so on Jan 2 at 7 AM my husband went to pick up the small kitten, brought him to the vet, and finally home. The vet gave him an anti-flea nebulizer bath and he was shedding dead fleas for two days, so his first name was Mr. Flea.
After two weeks eating 4000 pesos worth of imported Royal Canin Mother & Kitten cans a day, he is about double his original weight (425 grams) and flea free.
We have to repeat the deworming treatment tomorrow, as it is effective only on adult worms and not on eggs and larvaes. Once he reaches 1 kg, he can get his bloodwork done and can be put up for adoption. He is a long furred tuxedo, and I suppose he may also have a smoke fur, which is beautiful. He still has his baby fur so it is hard to tell. He definitely had some long hair... his whiskers are so long, they often end in his mouth!

He's a little charmer.

The first case of bird flu was confirmed in New Orleans last week after the H5N1 virus was detected in a house cat on Jan. 14, according to the United States Department of Agriculture.
The agriculture department listed the case among other instances where the virus has turned up in mammals since May 2022. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the state health department didn't immediately respond to a request for comment about the case.
An Oregon house cat died last month after eating cat food that contained raw turkey. The cat food, which contained a variant of bird flu, matched the illness that infected the cat and was later recalled. Officials have not shared what might have affected the Orleans Parish feline nor the animal's current condition.
Cooking meat and pasteurizing milk eliminates the virus, prompting veterinarians to warn against feeding animals raw milk and meat products. Veterinarians have also warned against letting cats wander outdoors, as they are natural hunters who tend to go after birds that may contain the virus.
USDA officials said that such cases of the virus rarely spread further, except in instances of cats that live together at home.
Louisiana has had one case of bird flu in humans after a person contracted the virus from a backyard flock of birds. The patient, who was over 65 and had underlying health conditions, died earlier this month after being hospitalized in December.

It's impossible to stop cats from wandering around outdoors, if that's the way they've been brought up.

I really hate cockroaches with a vengeance and can't even crush them with my foot. Adri can and then picks them up in a paper towel and bins them. I just can't do it, but I will spray them with Raid which is about as far as I'll go
Anyway, Panda is an expert roacher and you know how fast cats are. I'll direct her to a roach, she'll catch it, play with it for a while and then take it back to her bed which is an old towel.
The gold earring never reappeared though.

I stand on them then Minnie the terrier plays with them for a while before eating them.

Good fiber, I guess.
