I use it to express I appreciate a post although I have nothing to add/say to it.
I think it doesn’t add to the forum, because I’m probably not going to both “like” and reply to a thread /contribute to the discussion. Whereas if I didn’t have the easier option, I’d probably post even a brief reply when someone has gone to the trouble of initiating a topic.
I voted don't care as it doesn't really bother me either way....most of the time I forget it's there.
Tend to agree with Rice though. I'd much prefer to read a reply than just get a thumbs up/down.

It was sorely missed! Sometimes I just want to show I appreciate someone's contribution even if I don't have anything to add to it.

Not sure what ''forum traffic'' has to do with it. Lots of posts saying ''I agree'' don't add any value to the forum.
That’s what I mean. When I say “traffic,” I mean actual conversations, not “I agree” or a thumbs-up.
