The US dollar hit 196 pesos today which is a new record, apparently.

Doing a deal tomorrow and it's in dollars. Good for us and others but explains why the country's permanently f'cked!!

197 yesterday and so 200 is a certainty, this week or next. It's kind of a symbolic number and is certainly inevitable.

For pound watchers, the GBP is at 275 on Western Union.....

We want your dollars, tourists, so open an account in this fiscal paradise!

Tourists are not mugs .
they change them on the street for 195....

And this government move won’t win them any fans among Argentines, either.

The dollar closed at $199 yesterday and there are only ten days till the mid-terms. It's bound to hit $200 either today or tomorrow.

Western union were giving 213 yesterday - their rate is based on a complicated calculation using the CCL rate , which is semi official

WU are giving the cuevas a run for their money. How do they do it and more to the point, how do they get away with it?
Or are they allowed to buy/sell at any rate they desire?
-
-
The CCL is sort of legal - I guess they could be operating on behalf of one of the big stockbrokers who need to move cash around.
The pound is at 291 with them today.
-
-
Does Western Union charge a fee, or is the net rate 213? In the US, WU is generally used only as a last resort for transferring funds, because they charge a hefty percentage of the amount being transferred.
-
-
WU does charge fees.
But strangely the fees we pay ex Europe are much less than the fees US residents pay.
If I do a 500 GBP Transfer to my account here the fee is one pound
If I do it for cash pick up it is 2 or 3 pounds
Whereas in the US the fees are much higher, I think around 30 dollars.
Why? - No idea....

Naturally the government now uses alternative facts to explain away the blue dollar's record high.
Quote
The increase is not of the dollar, the increase is of the blue dollar, a market that is managed with its own rules and its own expectationsAs quoted by Gabriela Cerruto, presidential spokesman/woman/person.

Some day an honest politician will say it's not a problem with the dollar, the problem is the peso - it's not worth the paper it's printed on.

The politicians all live in a different Argentina than the one we live in.

WU rates over the weekend are as follows
Dollar - 215.4
Pound - 290.5
One of my buddies who understands these things says that WU are basing their quotes on the CCL Libre Rate - a new one to me.

-
The dollar finally hit $200 today, presumably due to lack of confidence in the gonks running this country.
-
-
WU today are offering......
USD - 216.45
GBP - 294.09
I can't get my head around either quotation, to be honest.
