Been their!!!! Great park!!! If you go down to Dauphin Island be sure and take the Ferry across the Bay. Fort Gaines is on Dauphin Island and Fort Morgan is across the Bay.

... and while that close, head NW to Huntsville, Alabama to the US Space & Rocket Center. A highlight for me was the Saturn rocket, because in my summer job during college days, I etched circuit boards for the Saturn.

Ha! The most memorable talent required of that job was willingness to, when necessary, plunge one’s (protectively-coated) hands into the etching bath.
Not a job for aspiring hand models!

A Boeing 747 taking off from Buenos Aires, EZE - cockpit view - November 2019.
The same 747 landing in Quito,Ecuador. Watch how the pilot avoids the towering thunderstorms which you can clearly see on his radar. Apparently, Quito is one of the most challenging airports to land at.

Fascinating! All of this happening while passengers are just turning movies on or off, putting shoes off or on, etc.
We’ve flown in and out of Guayaquil but never Quito. What makes Quito so challenging? Prevalent weather conditions? That deep valley just before the runway? Scylla and Charybdis threatening on either side? -

This was a Martinair (Dutch) cargo aircraft, so no passengers to worry about and Quito airport is the highest in the world at 2800 meters AMSL.
It's the mountains and ravines that cause strange turbulence, evidently.

The old Quito airport was better . It was only a couple of miles from the City centre .
the new one is not so exciting ...

Exciting = not good in choice of an airport.

My favourite is Bucaramanga in Colombia . Built on the side of a cliff..
The old one at Medellín was also nice . Right in the centre of town ! The new one is on the top of a mountain !
