My favorite piece of art in Buenos Aires

About three years ago I visited the Museo Puyrredón in San Isidro and I saw for the first time this painting 'Hortensia Aguirre de Leloir y Marta Leloir de Udaondo' (Óleo sobre tela, Francia, 1914).

I especially like the light and I am sorry my photo doesn't make any justice to this painting.

I was unable to find further details on it online - maybe it is not an important painting, but I like the feeling of calmness it transmitted.

Must admit I'm not a fan of art galleries/museums. Always avoid them when on holiday. Even my art loving wife gave up when she saw the queues to get into the Prado.

I'd far rather walk the streets and admire the architecture in Buenos Aires. Although if I had time on my hands and was passing I might pop in seen as it's free so thanks for the heads up.

Across all our street there is a big murales and one day I saw a walking street art tour admiring it. I felt so fancy living in front of a piece of art.

Thank you, Rice, but what about Paris, London, New York, Rome...

Some places are interesting, others are very ugly, especially the surroundings, what we call "el conurbano". The urban sprawl without any control during the 1930 and 1960 allowed the allottment of many blocks without providing public spaces.

Not to mention the "Villas" (shanty towns) at meters of Retiro Station.

Your opinion comes that you usually explore the Northwest-Southeast axis, where all the good things are: the Barrio Norte, Palermo, the Parks, Belgrano, ...etc. But I can assure that we have very depressing places: junk spaces and crap architecture is everywhere.

Of course you are right, Carlos . But please do not overlook the fact that the great cities of Europe all have terrible slums and shantytowns....

We were just talking about this with my husband the other night. There is a great deal of Argentinians moving to Barcelona, Valencia, Sevilla... but my husband did not speak highly about Spanish towns: downtown is historic and nice, but most people do not live in a fancy attic overlook the cathedral, but in 'sleepers' neighborhoods with condominiums in the city belt.
