I was impressed especially that of Liddel Hart, who conlcudes that the best way of winning a war is to convince the enemy that victory for them is impossible. Therefore, better for all is to retreat.

Good point. My thought was that the world would be better off if both sides, thinking they could not win, resolved their differences through diplomacy.
Clearly this wouldn’t work with mass murdering, megalomaniac dictators.
