Is there any truth in the rumours that Trump is fixing it for TIK TOK to be sold to Musk , allowing it to keep operating in USA?

    That wouldn't surprise me.

TikTok clearly has no interest in selling. The thing is, even if sold to an American company, the requirements in the rest of the legislation guarantees TikTok will no longer be TikTok.

It's just occurred to me that he's managed to get the three richest men on his team.

    The Pillage People

You are absolutely right. Look at the stark warning in Biden’s farewell address to the nation, in these three excerpts:

    1) “I want to warn the country of some things that give me great concern. And that’s the dangerous concentration of power in the hands of a very few ultrawealthy people, and the dangerous consequences if their abuse of power is left unchecked. Today, an oligarchy is taking shape in America of extreme wealth, power and influence that literally threatens our entire democracy, our basic rights and freedoms and a fair shot for everyone.”

    and

    2) “…I’m …. concerned about the potential rise of a tech-industrial complex that could pose real dangers for our country as well.

“Americans are being buried under an avalanche of misinformation and disinformation enabling the abuse of power. The free press is crumbling. Editors are disappearing. Social media is giving up on fact-checking. The truth is smothered by lies told for power and for profit.

    and

    3) “And in a democracy, there is another danger — that the concentration of power and wealth. It erodes a sense of unity and common purpose. It causes distrust and division. Participating in our democracy becomes exhausting and even disillusioning, and people don’t feel like they have a fair shot. We have to stay engaged in the process. I know it’s frustrating. A fair shot is what makes America America. Everyone is entitled to a fair shot, not a guarantee, just a fair shot, an even playing field. Going as far as your hard work and talent can take you.”

And birdbrain Milei is going to the inaguration to sell his [Argentina's] soul to the soul-less grifter Billionaire Cartel that will eat him alive and throw him under the 5th Ave Bus

Political Correctness is a doctrine, recently fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and promoted by a sick mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a piece of shit by clean end!

I would hardly describe Milei as a birdbrain.

Connection...? Lived in BA for 7 yrs. Used to be active on this forum, not currently. Wife is Argentine. Son went to high school in BA. I guess that's all fairly connected.

I remember you from the other place where I was known as Gringoboy.

Anyway, from my perspective, Milei is doing the Washington dance and maybe his arse licking will be good for Argentina?

Perhaps, personally, he doesn't even like Trump or Stone and is simply acting it out for his own benefit, or more accurately, Argentina's benefit?

This country was completely isolated by Xtina and her minions for years, as an outcast and laughing stock. Not so many people are laughing now, so perhaps the means justify the ends.

Or the end justifies the means?

My fear is that, like so many others before him, Milei will unnecessarily humiliate himself only to come up empty handed if there’s not enough in it for trump. We don’t yet know what Milei’s motives are, but we know Trump’s only too well.

Trump needs a friend in LATAM.

USA lost its way down here and China And Russia took advantage.

I reckon they both need each other for a while

Good point, GlasgowJohn . I have long hoped for a change in the chilly relationship between the two countries. I would just like to have that brokered by a US president who can be trusted not to screw Argentina.

Indeed. He recognises Milei is Argentina's last throw at the dice and will support him. If Milei can't turn this country around then I fear for its future.

I watched all of Trump's inauguration, including his speech which was creepily restrained and didn't have the bombast of his previous crowning. It's what he didn't say, yet implied, which was the creepy part.

I have to say that I was left cold afterwards because it was messianic in it's content and reminded me of speeches made by dictators both past and present. This is especially true because he now has absolute power over both houses, not to mention the Supreme Court.

And he will be aided by God who raised him from the ashes of the assassination attempt.

He will not start any wars, but will take back the Panama Canal. How?

His overriding of the Supreme Court in the TikTok saga completely baffles me.

    Renaming Denali to Mount McKinley.

Who originally named the Gulf of Mexico and who owns it? It is apparently being renamed the Gulf of America.

What's in a name anyhow? American greatness, that's what, according to Trump.

Make America Great Again - what does that even mean? Is it any greater after four years of Trump and Biden and will it be after the next four years? I don't think so. It's nothing but a rallying call and very effective at that.

Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles?

One might consider what Milei is doing in Argentina, but at least he is fixing a problem decades in the making. With Trump, I can't help feeling that his driving motive is vengeance, a dangerous position to start from, which can only widen the division.
