In the middle of the tragic US Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln saw the wisdom of uniting the people in a shared desire for an end to the war as well as hope the future and everything they could find to be thankful for.
Because of this, 155 years ago he proclaimed the last Thursday in November to be a national day of thanksgiving.
Today Thanksgiving Day is one of only ten US federal holidays. It is celebrated by lots of cooking, gatherings of family and friends, nonstop watching of football games, and the consumption of an unconscionable amount of food.
Thus this quote from Caricature : wit and humor of a nation in picture, song and story - - -
“I am a Thanksgiver. I have a generous and grateful nature. I also have a splendid appetite.”
Happy Thanksgiving to all Argentina expats!
