Future international flights

  • I was talking to the CEO of Montevideo Airport yesterday.

They have one flight a week to Madrid and two to Sao Paulo

More will come next month , he says.

He expects to be at around 30% of Pre-Covid flights by the end of the year.

    Full normality 2023........

  • I’m glad y’all are settled and your wife got her residency, ben . Thanks very much for the good information. Please continue to be in touch; we’ve missed you during your relocation!

Thank you also, GlasgowJohn , for ferreting out info from airport sources.

  • Hi ben and welcome back.

When did you manage to escape?

What worries me is the amount of airlines that may not return.

Norwegian have our money for a Sept flight they cancelled, giving us cash points in return which we probably won't be able to use if they pull out completely.

We got out in November, I am still working in travel but that has taken quite the hit.

Norwegian is very unlikely to continue to exist in my opinion. I hope I’m wrong.

We haven’t achieved permanent residence yet, but are on our way. Unclear when that will happen. But the process is underway, we’re here legally, and our kids are all in school.

Had we been in Argentina now, we’d be truly and utterly [censored].

Argentina is opening its aviation way faster than Peru, which still has next to no flights at all.

The larger problem is that even once countries open up - which will take a while - people will still take a very long time to continue flying the way they used to.

In many respects COVID is but accelerating the societal changes that were underway anyways.

Business travel will likely be heavily impacted permanently, as business will have learned to manage in the absence of physical travel. People have been forced to telecommute, and lots of workplaces will have found it can actually work better than expected. Demand will stay depressed for a long while. Any number of airlines will likely shut down.

I do airline tickets, car rental, hotels, cruises, insurance, and all-inclusive packages.

If you want great service and low prices, look no further.
I also sell local SIM cards for several countries.

    • Helpful

September will be another month of "repatriation" flights - these semi regular flights that are only open to residents of the destination country

Iberia , Air Europa and Aerolineas will serve Madrid .

I hear that BA has applied to do a London - EZE but this has still to be approved.

Regular flights as we knew them will take some time and will depend on the numbers , which are now being used politically

I will try and collect more info from my mate at the airport.

American Airlines have been authorized to operate 2 services per week to Miami from EZE.

Looks like being Thursday and Saturdays.

Not sure who is able to fly on these services at the moment.

Air France will have 2 flights per week to Paris

KLM two flights per week to Amsterdam

Ethiopian will have 2 flights a week to Addis Abbaba via Sao Paulo from Octobaer

Some great connections from there to Asia and other parts of Africa

They have asked the government permission to fly 5 flights per week from November - their pre Covid level

I thought you were back in Canada! Glad to read your informative posts and sorry your main line of business was so badly affected.

I am! When I talk of permanent residence, I mean my wife not me.

(I’m still a PR in Argentina, for if I ever want to come back).

The travel business is picking up slowly but surely. I am back to selling at least something every day, which was not the case even one month ago.

  • So Aerolineas cancelled my Bs to Rio gallegos today on 3rd September but not my return on the 25th ...Which clearly i cant use..

I do notice that from 18th September they have there schedule up for that domestic route again but cancelled the 1st to 18th..

So infuriating as i now either want her to come to UK or get a flight to Cancun and we can have 3 weeks in Tulum.....both of which would be possiblefrom next week onward if she lived in Bs province but not any other that requires a flight to get to Bs...

This domestic flight situation is farcical and is pretty much keeping her prisoner in her own country..

  • hairyscotsman . There are rumours that some domestic flights will be operated.

No where like the normal service but some "special flights" a couple of days a week.

But it looks like a last minute decision... which is not ideal for you when you are trying to plan a meet with the g-f.

These guys have pulled all the info on international flights to and from Bs As and put it in one place.

    Well done guys!

  • For those of you living in Argentina in your opinion how long do you think they will continue to deny entry to foreigners. The fact the virus is everywhere and virtually all other countries have started international flights makes this all the more frustrating.

  • A friend of ours who lives in Uruguay and was due to fly to BA on Monday has just had her flight cancelled because she apparently didn't have a compelling reason to come here, even though she's Argentine with Uruguayan citizenship. Her man lives here and they haven't seen each other since March.

I fear that the Argentine government will keep this up until at least the end of December.
